Breed Standard - Nuwby


Type 1 AMGA Breed Standard
The IDEAL – NUWBY

To be classified as a Nuwby at the Purebred standard, the animal must stand 50.8cm or less and conform to the ideal breed standard without faults, and have two registered minimum Grade A Nuwby parents.

NUWBY General Type Description
The Nuwby is a small sized, well-muscled, stylish and balanced animal.
It should be longer in the body in comparison to its height. The maximum height is 63.5cm (25”) for both males and females, measured at the wither. The ideal size range is 48.25cm – 50.8cm (19-20”) with preference given to the smaller size.
The Nuwby goat is usually created by crossing Anglo Nubian, Kalahari and/or Boer goats with miniature goats (usually ferals). Any ratio of miniature to Anglo Nubian / Boer / Kalahari is acceptable as long at the goat looks like a Nuwby and has ears and facial profile as described in the breed conformation specifics.

General Appearance (style & quality): genetically small and compact, the ideal is an exotic animal with a high, proud head-carriage, majestic bearing and upright stance. The Nuwby is hardy, alert and animated, good-natured and gregarious. The females should be feminine, the male should be powerful, majestic and should move smoothly. The Nuwby ideal size is 48.25cm – 50.8cm (19-20”) with preference give to the smaller size.

Head (skull, eyes, ears, mouth, nostrils): The head is the distinctive breed characteristic, with the facial profile between the eyes and the muzzle being strongly convex. The ears are long, wide and pendulous equal to or longer than the muzzle. They lie close to the head at the temple and flare slightly out and well forward at the rounded tip. Eyes should be almond shaped and set wide apart.

Coat: The coat is short, fine and glossy or cashmere. Nuwbys are accepted in any and all colours.

Differing from the Ideal (found and recognised): Nose with slight dish. Uneven tassels, horned, wry tail. Ears: Shorter than the tip of the muzzle, narrow, folded. Height: Exceeding 50.8cm but not exceeding 63.5cm.

Faults: Cow hocks, steeply sloping rump, dropped pasterns. Visible teeth. Roach back or sway back. Uneven gait, poor feet, splayed feet. Weak or narrow chest, shallow body. Fleshy udder. Pocket in udder. Teats: small; thin; ill defined or unbalanced, double teats, supernumerary teats, double orifices. Lack of masculinity in bucks. Unduly pendulous, divided or uneven scrotum.

Disqualifications: Parrot mouth or obviously undershot jaw. Wry face. Intersex. Short and/or upright ears. Undescended testicle/s in bucks. Long non-shedding coat. Height exceeding 63.5cm.

The GRADE – NUWBY

To be classified as a Nuwby at the Grade standard (D, C, B, A) the animal must conform to the minimum breed type and conformation specifics and should strive to meet the ideal breed standards particularly with a view to eradicating all faults and disqualifying traits.

Height: Not exceeding 63.5cm (Grade D).
