The following Show Societies have invited Miniature Goat Breeders to Display and / or have their animals judged as detailed below.
All Members are encouraged to participate where possible to ensure the ongoing commitment of these Shows to the display and judging of the Australian Miniature Goat. Shows where we are currently displaying are planned to be enhanced with Judging competitions in future years so a good level of support is important.
Shows are a great way to enhance the profile of the Australian Miniature Goat as there is usually a good level of media coverage as a result of the Displays and Judging, as well as the number of spectators that attend the Shows. This is a great way for individual breeders to enahance your Studs profile as well as getting exposure to many potential customers.

Any AMGA members wishing to attend any of these shows, please advise Dennis Walsh of the following information:
1. Which show/s you are interested in attending.
2. Approximate number of goats you plan to display/enter.
3. How many pens you would require (pen size avg. 2.4m x 2.4m)
4. Are you able to provide display pens if not provided by the Show?
5. How many days can you attend (for multi day display shows)
Members should be aware that shows allowing displays over multiple days will require exhibitors to tend their animals overnights. Show Societies are unable to take responsibility for any animal left unattended. Some Shows may allow you to come and go with your goats on a daily basis but please check beforehand.
Larger Shows such as the Royal Queensland Show (EKKA) can take up to 3 years for permission to participate. We have been fast tracked in this process so a good showing is very important and we encourage interested members to contact Dennis Walsh as early as possible if interested in attending.

Ipswich Show 7 - 9 May, 2009
Report from Dennis and Barbara Walsh, Denbarja Miniature Goat Breeders.
The three days display was again well received by the public and we had a lot of genuine interest some of which is sure to turn into future sales and possibly new breeders/AMGA members. Adults and children alike were keen to handle the little fellows (kids) and there were plenty of helping hands at feed times. Dennis slept in my Rav 4 next to the pens at night to keep a close eye on things. The time was shared with Wilhelmina and Dave Pickles of Pickwil stud on Thursday and Saturday and Graeme and Elissa Hart of Galene Park on Saturday. We also walked some of the older goats through Sideshow Alley and the Australiana area much to the delight of stall holders and the public alike. Ziggy went for a ride on the train with Dennis and sat quietly for the whole trip around the showgrounds. We were very well looked after by our contacts from Ipswich Show, particularly Graham Sharp, and made new friends amongst the other exhibitors. No doubt that we will be back next year bigger and better.
Marbug Show - May, 2009
Report from Wilhelmina Pickles, Pickwil Miniature Goat Stud.
The Marburg show was on the following Saturday. Once again asked at short notice to bring the miniatures. Enlisted help from Barbara and Dennis from Denbarja Stud. The day dawned beautiful. Loaded the little ones into the car and off we went. Luckily Marburg is only about 20kms from home. We were in the sheep pavilion. Plenty of willing helpers to help me unload as various schools in the area breed and show sheep and the school children thought the kids were just adorable. It was about ten minutes before I got any of the babies back.
As usual the miniatures were a hit with the general public. Many people put in orders. Denbarja and myself just cannot fill all the orders we get. We live in the ideal area for keeping the miniatures as most people here live on small acreage. Even as we were loading everyone back into the cars at the end of the day, it was hard to escape quickly as people were so taken with the animals. Once again we had a lovely day showing the miniatures, Next....the Ipswich show for three days.
Toogoolawah Show 6th & 7th June, 2008
Report from Dennis and Barbara Walsh, Denbarja Miniature Goat Breeders.
email: denbarja@westnet.com.au
This was our second venture in displaying the little ones in a show environment.
Toogoolawah is also situated in the beautiful Brisbane Valley, 18klms north of Esk.
With the help of local Boer goat breeders, a pen was erected under cover adjacent to the Boer goat pavilion.
Once again our friends from Pickwil Stud provided a number of goats to make up a good display. The weather first thing was
terrible with driving rain and we were unsure what would be happening when we arrived at Toogoolawah. It was appreciated
that David and Wilhelmina (Pickwil Stud) braved the conditions to travel such a long way with their little ones.
We displayed 6 goats in total and as the sun shone through the minis were another hit with a show crowd. We had goats there from 5 weeks old to 2 years. They all came dressed in their finest warm coats. The babies were of course very popular with the children who loved to nurse and help bottle feed them.
There were 57 Pure Bred Stud Boer Goats being exhibited, so a lot of people visited our display. It also gave us a chance to see a goat show ring in operation. The Boer goat breeders were amazed that the miniature-bred goats were such a contrast in size. Even though the Boer is not a tall goat, the size difference was substantial.
We have a break now while preparing for the Laidley Show. This show will give breeders the opportunity to have their goats judged on a fun filled day.

ESK SHOW 23rd and 24th May 2008.
Report from Dennis and Barbara Walsh, Denbarja Miniature Goat Breeders.
email: denbarja@westnet.com.au
The Esk Show Society holds their Annual Agricultural Show in the town of Esk, situated in the beautiful Brisbane Valley about 100klms west of Brisbane, Qld.
This was our first venture as AMGA members to display the little ones to the public in a full show environment. With the help of other show society committee members, we constructed 3 pens from 10 x 2.4 metre gates. These were erected next to a pavilion at the showground entrance. Wilhelmina and Dave Pickles from Pickwil Miniature Goat Stud also brought a number of goats and display literature. In total we displayed 12 goats of various types and ages to the general public. The response from parents and children was fantastic. We received a number of enquiries, which may turn into sales as time goes by. Our aim though was to give the miniature-bred goats a higher profile.
Esk have been trying to have goats exhibited at their show for some time, so it only took action not promises. As miniature goat breeders were introduced to the local Member of Parliament, President of Qld Agriculture Society and local Councillors. These govt. representatives were very taken with the goats. Of course all our little ones performed to their best as friendly people loving animals. Pickwil Stud erected a child’s plastic climbing house, which the goats enjoyed greatly. They also provided a shade cabana for us humans. We erected a dog’s bed with canopy, which our little ones used for an afternoon nap.
Our next display, together with the Pickwil Stud, will at the Toogoowah Show in two weeks time. Toogoolawah is a town 18 kms north of Esk towards Kilcoy.
The intention is to increase the number of miniature goats included as regular show exhibits, which may later be open to all members of AMGA and MGBAA.
We are also doing our bit to help the environment by going 'online'
where possible.
You can now sumbit your registration and membership applications, renewals and
stud registrations online. Your registration certificates will be available
online, you can choose to print it yourself or simply view them online.
The use of these online services also reduces the cost overheads for the Association. Given the anticipated reduction in postage and stationary expenses, most registrations will now be FREE for AMGA Members. That's right, you can register animals, upgrade and height verify, issue service certificates, advise of death/disposal/desexing, transfer ownership etc. Fees will only be charged if you want a printed certificate issued, or if you are transferring an animal to a non-member which will require a certificate to be issued as they will not have online access to their certificates. A nominal fee of $2.50 each will cover postage and stationary expenses for these certificates.
In order to recognise the efforts of members who speak to new owners when purchasing animals encouraging them to join the Association so they can take advantage of the services offered, we are now offering a discount of $2.00 on your next membership renewal for each referral that results in a new membership. You can submit a referral notice online, and/or the applicant can nominate you on their membership application.
The AMGA Registry is online and is available to members to search the database for pedigree information on registered animals. You can search pedigrees, progeny, siblings etc. Breeder members, if you have not registered and received your username/passwordas yet, please do so at your convenience.
We will continue to update and expand the AMGA website as a resource to members and visitors. If you have any suggestions that you would like to see added, email the webmaster .
