Just Kiddin Mini Goats has been developing Australian Miniature Goats since 2001. Our property borders the World Heritage Mount Warning National Park and is quite steep, in fact we have virtually no flat land so we wanted to get some animals that wouldn’t mind these conditions. Being located in a lush sub tropical environment and wanting to reclaim and regenerate the rainforest verges we also wanted something that would help control the rampant weeds, grasses and unwanted types of trees and shrubs. We started with a small herd that has grown rapidly over the years as we developed a great love for these little critters. When we started we knew very little about goats but we have learned a lot over the years by talking with many experienced goat breeders and vets and searching books, magazines, the internet and other sources of information, wading through the massive amount of available information. Acknowledging our lack of experience, we also joined many international goat forums full of people who have been breeding goats all their lives and are happy to share their knowledge and experience.
When we first began, we purchased a doe with a 4 week old buck kid, not really thinking about the implications of owning a buck, nor of using him over his mother! We then purchased several other does, but eighteen months down the track we realised that our miniature buck kid was going to be well overheight and that all of his kids would therefore be unlikely to meet the standards. Having spent a lot of time gaining lots of knowledge but not really progressing anywhere with our breeding plans, we determined that a complete overhaul was required.
