MEIE TALUND Stud is a 5
acre property at Frankford in Tasmania about 40km from Launceston.
Frankford is beautiful rolling hills of past dairy farms, where
now small farms run cattle and sheep. Most people commute to
Launceston or Devonport for work. We have frosty cold winters
with the occasional flake of snow.
My partner, Jeanne, and I have lived in this beautiful place
for almost 6 years now. We bought our first goats 41/2 years
ago, starting with a couple of dairy goats which I milked, (one
I am still milking to help feed the babies), then a few small
goats from Queensland & Victoria, with the hope of breeding
the little minis. We found this was not an easy quest, but are
perservering and always on the look out for small stock to work
with.
Although this is not Jeanne’s passion, she gets dragged
through all the trials and tribulations that go with owning
stock animals. She is very patient and helpful.

We no longer have any difficult,
people-shy goats on our property and this is making our work
much easier. This year we had 13 babies born in September within
a two week span so have been very busy bottle feeding. We have
kept one of our baby boys for a Stud Buck called Huckleberry
Finn (Huck). He Is a little black and white swiss and is a very
pretty boy. All our babies are bottle fed, disbudded and the
boys are wethered, so they make beautiful people friendly pets.
Our aim, at the moment,
is to get our sizes down and produce an assortment of colours.
Always with the aim for sound, healthy, friendly goats.

| We were asked to put some babies into the
Animal Nursery at the Launceston Show 3 years ago and have been
doing so every year since. We really enjoy doing this and it makes
a great opportunity for us to talk to the public about the miniature
goat. In 2005 we have been fortunate to be asked to do 3 country
shows beside the Launceston Show. |
