Registry changes effective 31st March, 2007
The registry was originally established by the Australian Miniature Goat Club to record animals used in the development of the Australian Miniature Goat breed and to record the studs involved in the breeding program. On the 15th April 2004, the AMGA took over maintenance of the registry for all Australian Miniature Goats and all existing registrations were converted to the AMGA Registry at that date.
The registry has been designed to record each individual goats details, their breeding history and bloodlines so a Studbook can be produced and maintained with accurate up to date information accessible to all members. A registration certificate will be issued for each registered Australian Miniature Goat.
The AMGA plans to make animal registration details accessible on-line to registered breeder members in the near future. Anyone wishing to enquire on the registration of any animal can do so by contacting the Registrar.
Registry changes introduced as at 1 July, 2005.
1) Breed Types - There are now three breed types - Minikin, Nuwby, Sheltie.
Minikin–
short or shedding cashmere coat, any ear type shorter than muzzle (combines
current Pixie & Minikin ear type).
Nuwby –
short or shedding cashmere coat, ears should be longer than muzzle.
Sheltie
– long, non-shedding coat, any ear type. (No change to current type).
For detail on the breed type standards, click on the breed to go to the breed
standard page.
2) Heights.
For all animals height verified after 1 July, 2005.
Grade D - maximum height 63.5cm (25")
Grade C - maximum height 58.5cm (23")
Grade B - maximum height 55.8cm (22")
Grade A - maximum height 53.3cm (21")
Purebred - maximum height 50.8cm (20")
3) Amnesty
Any animal currently registered with AMGA will retain its recorded grade. Such
animals will be listed as ‘Foundation’ if they were graded under
old AMGA registry rules but do not meet the new grade requirements. All progeny
of any such animal (including current AMGA recorded kids), will be graded against
the registry rules in force at the time of the kid being upgraded to adult registration
(i.e. they will need to meet the maximum height rule to attain a higher (or
even the same) grade as the parents.
4) Height Verification / Adult Upgrade
Animals may be upgraded to adult registration at 2 years of age, the grade recorded
will be listed as ‘Provisional’ until the animal reaches 3 years
of age and has its height re-verified. This enables breeders to have an indicative
grade that will be confirmed at 3 years of age as long as the animal does not
exceed the maximum height for the grade at that time. Bucks will still need
to have their height re-verified at 4 years of age.
5) Animals registered with alternate registries
transferring to AMGA.
Any person wishing to transfer an animal registered with another entity can
do so based on the lineage certified and verifiable for that animal. You will
need to submit a completed application form, copy of existing registration certificate
and pay the appropriate fee. Any such animal’s grade may be adjusted in
line with the AMGA height and registration rules in place at the time application
is made.
The AMGA Registry Rules and Regulations are listed in full in the AMGA Registry Information Guide v2.1 published 1st September, 2005. All information in the guide is included in this website, if you are a member and would like a copy, you can request one from the Registrar.
All registrations are subject to registry approval.
As of the 31st March, 2007 the AMGA registry will accept registration for animals registered with AMGR using their standards thereby allowing members to have all of their animals registered by a single entity without potentially having to downgrade an animals grade. These animals grade/standards will be classifed as Type 2. There is no changes to the existing AMGA Breed Types/Grades/Standards which are now defined as Type 1. Breeders can nominate to grade using Type 1, Type 2 or both.
